Story Time Tuesday: Susan Eaddy

Join us on on the McIver’s Grant Public Library Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/McIversGrantPublicLibrary) on Oct 27th as we welcome children’s book author and illustrator Susan Eaddy as a guest reader! Ms. Susan will be reading her newest book “Eenie Meenie Halloweenie.” Story Time friends will also get a tour of Susan Eaddy’s studio where she writes and illustrates with clay, and a tutorial on how to create ears for a homemade Halloween costume out of a headband.

Constitution Jeopardy

There is just a short amount of time left to play this patriotic version of the familiar game show. The game will be available only through Sept. 30. With clues to the questions offered escape room-style, a visit to READsquared (http://migpl.readsquared.com/) gives you everything you need to earn a virtual badge and a chance at great prizes! This mission is a partnership between McIver’s Grant Public Library and the Daughters of the American Revolution Key Corner Chapter.

LEGO Challenge

LEGO lovers of all ages can take part in McIver’s Grant Public Library’s READsquared LEGO Challenge (http://migpl.readsquared.com/). Each month, take part in LEGO challenges designed for everyone from rookies to Master Builders. In September through November, earn additional points – and a chance to win free park entry or a season pass to Discovery Park of America – by taking part in the Discovery Park LEGO Contest! (This contest is our third annual partnership between Discovery Park of America and libraries in the Obion River Regional System.) Join us today and BUILD A BETTER WORLD!

Very Dairy Challenge

The Very Dairy Challenge is the first badge in a series of fun and educational activities brought to you through a partnership between UT/TSU Extension Dyer County, McIver’s Grant Public Library, and Dyer County 4-H. Activities for all ages include a free activity kit that may be picked up at McIver’s Grant Public Library. Simply log in to READsquared (http://migpl.readsquared.com/) to tour a West Tennessee dairy farm and a local ice cream factory – and to see how to make cheese out of goat’s milk! Enjoy dairy recipes, storytimes, contests and challenges, book lists, fun facts – and a magic milk experiment brought to you by Sunflower Health Food! New missions will take place each month! In October, Discovery Park of America joins us for more fun for all ages with a space-themed mission.

Space Race!

Space Race is the next badge in a series of fun and educational activities brought to you through a partnership between UT/TSU Extension Dyer County, McIver’s Grant Public Library, and Dyer County 4-H. Activities for all ages include a free 4-H S.T.E.M. activity kit that may be picked up at McIver’s Grant Public Library. This month, Discovery Park of America joins the fun! Simply log in to READsquared (http://migpl.readsquared.com/) to enjoy space-themed books, a virtual walk on the moon, a spacesuit challenge, activities, free Discovery Park virtual field trips (aligned with Common Core standards), storytimes, and volcano science!

Enjoyed McIver’s Grant Public Library’s summer reading platform? Continue to log your reading and take part in activities and missions designed to promote literacy skills and a lifelong love of learning with our FALL in love with Reading program. The Friend’s of McIver’s Grant Public Library organization will have all sizes of pumpkins available, perfect for carving or decorative stacking. Prices for individual pumpkins will range from $6 to $15.

A fun fall backdrop will also be set up for you to snap a selfie!

We’ll be looking at the Draconid meteor shower as it comes overhead, as well as checking out some neat apps that allow constellation exploration and virtual reality tours of space. First come, first served, with a maxium of 30 vehicles. 5:30pm-6:30pm

Teen Advisory Board (TAB)

McIver’s Grant Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board is not just your average teen group! TAB members work together to help shape YA programming and policies, earn volunteer hours, offer book suggestions and – yes! have a great time together. TAB members learn the inner workings of a board, take on leadership responsibilities, report to the library director, and promote teen activities at the library.

Come join us and see what TAB is all about!

(Ages 12-18 are invited to apply. Parents must sign the application.)

We meet at 3:30 pm, every 2nd and 4th Monday at the library in the Teen Area.

Jumanji Express

McIver’s Grant Public Library’s Christmas Drive-Through Story Time will celebrate TWO classic children’s books by the masterful Chris Van Allsburg.

Join us in the library parking lot from 5:30-6:30pm on Monday, Dec. 14 for a twist on Van Allsburg’s classic The Polar Express.

When the wrong book is pulled before the library’s annual Christmas program, patrons will find themselves rolling the dice to make it through the jungles of Jumanji before they can enjoy their cocoa on The Polar Express.

Wear your jammies. Stay in your car…and see where the DICE takes you!

Family Science Night – the Great Pumpkin Palooza

Join UT/TSU Extension of Dyer County, McIver’s Grant Public Library, Dyer County 4H and Discovery Park of America for the October “Explore from Anywhere” series “Space Race.” The Great Pumpkin Palooza Family Science Night will take place in the library parking lot on Oct. 3oth from 5-7pm, offering socially-distanced science fun with 30 spots available. (first come, first serve). Families attending will enjoy hands-on science including cleaning out a pumpkin, counting the seeds, creating their own Pumpkin-Cano! and cheering on an Exploding Pumpkin Relay Race! Join us for a fun evening celebrating science, families, and the fall season!
